Just 11 Minutes of Your Time…
…is all it takes to combat the effects of sitting. We’ve known for a while that being sedentary increases the risk of disease and early death, but unfortunately sitting for prolonged periods of time is particularly common this year. With COVID restrictions and the chilly months upon us, the couch has become our best friend. Recent surveys of people’s behavior since the onset of the pandemic show that most of us are sitting way more than we were a year ago. But don’t fret, new research suggests that people who exercised moderately for just 11 minutes a day were significantly less likely to die prematurely, regardless if they sat for long periods of time each day.
This study found that the sweet spot for daily exercise (point at which mortality benefits maxed out) was about 35 minutes a day. Thirty-five minutes of brisk walking or moderate exercise a day isn’t an absurd amount and should be well within reach for most folks.
